Confirmation Discipleship

For students who have been baptized Confirmation Discipleship is the journey our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students go on to decide if they are going to affirm their baptismal vows and later be commissioned by our congregation for service in the world.

Our 3 year cycle of curriculum involves study of the holy scriptures, the Apostles Creed, Ten commandments, and the Lord’s prayer alongside a mentor from the congregation. Confirmation Discipleship is roughly a 3 year process that could go longer or shorter depending on how quickly students work through their packets with their mentors and set up a time to affirm their baptisms publicly.

6th grade year:

  • Youth choose to either continue acolyting or serve in worship in some other capacity.
  • Fill out two sermon notes each month, turn them into Jason, and get them mailed back with notes.
  • Participate in the Carlinville trip or a Confirmation Camp outing with other Middle School students.

7th grade year:

  • Youth choose to either continue acolyting or serve in worship in some other capacity.
  • Fill out two sermon notes each month, turn them into Jason, and get them mailed back with notes.
  • Participate in the Carlinville trip or a Confirmation Camp outing with other Middle School students.
  • Choose, or receive, a mentor and begin working through your first of two packets together.

8th grade year:

  • Youth choose to either continue acolyting or serve in worship in some other capacity.
  • Participate in the Carlinville trip, Confirmation Camp, or Leadership Lab.
  • Begin working through your second of two packets with your mentor.
  • Once your second packet is completed you can choose to affirm your faith in worship on any Sunday.

“This has meaning to me. I don’t just want to talk about it, I want to do something.”

Parents of these students are expected to serve on a committee of the church, serve as mentors, serve in worship monthly, or assist in being present in our Sabbath Sunday classrooms.
