Pastor Tom Hillertz accepted the call to serve Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in December of 2011.  Pastor Tom grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 2004. Ministry is his second career, having spent years as a logistic manager.

While in seminary Pastor Tom did his internship at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church a mission congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and also served three summers as hospital chaplain at Advocate Good Samaritan hospital, a trauma one hospital located in Downers Grove, IL.

He was first called to serve as Associate Pastor of First Lutheran Church, Onalaska WI. Pastor Tom claims to have learned a lot in his first call, including the native language of Onalaska, terminology like “You-bet-ya.” He then went on to serve American Lutheran Church in Bourbonnais, IL.

One of Pastor Tom’s favorite verses from Scripture comes from the prophet Isaiah, “I have called you by name, you are mine” (Isaiah 43).

Pastor Tom and Wendy were married in June of 1984. They are extremely proud of their two grown children, Andrew who teaches music outside of North Platte, NE and Ashley, an RN in Springfield, IL.

Pastor Tom enjoys gardening, biking, traveling, reading and spending time with Wendy. He says he feels blessed to have been called to serve God’s people at Good Shepherd.
